The DVD Cover Design is Lazy

I wish someone would redesign the cover for this movie. I can't tell you how many times I passed up this movie at the rental place when it would have originally come out. Not to mention that this image is also the icon that shows up on Netflix, etc.) I DID see 40 Days and 40 Nights when it came out in theaters - it was fine for what it was. This movie's cover/poster features an almost identical pose (boy and girl = romance) when it only really makes sense on the cover of 40 Days and 40 Nights which is not an ensemble movie.

I have always had an issue with "judging books by covers" and this one was very easy to pass over because of that since I usually halfway thought it WAS the 40 Days movie or at least from that genre (I mean... even the title seems like it might be a double entendre).

On top of that, Josh and the girl are not the main characters. And their pose actually looks MORE suggestive than the one for 40 Days and 40 Nights (at the very least she is smelling him). It's fine, but really nothing to do with this movie.

I know why they made this cover because he was the big ticket draw at the time - but it was completely reaching to the wrong audience because if I had been wanting something like 40 Days and 40 Nights, this movie would be considered more boring.

Of course I will end by saying I LOVE this movie. I saw it for the first time (finally!) a few years ago but am still flabbergasted at how lazy the cover/movie poster art was. I think I only did see it because of Alan Rickman. Bottle Shock's cover features HIM a bit too prominently but at least they have the rest of the cast on the front as well.

Random, but I have thought of this several times over the past few years (pretty much anytime I watch the movie - it's a great comfort film!)

I not only agree with you about the DVD cover, which captures none of the magic of the film, but I'd like to add that the trailers I've seen for this were also terrible.

I love this movie, but like you I had passed it over many times because the way it was marketed made it seem stupid. The trailers captured none of the heart of the film and made it seem like a typical young romance thing.

I'm so glad I finally watched it--this is a movie with so many levels and what a cast!
