Seinfeld connection?

I was just watching the episode of Seinfeld called "The Chaperone", from 1994 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0697671/). In the episode, Jerry meets Miss Rhode Island at a baseball game. Later he is talking to her on the phone and makes a reference to Congeniality and being Miss Congeniality. Then Kramer walks in and Jerry asks if he wants to go out with him and Miss Rhode Island, to which Kramer says "Oh Rhode Island is never a contender". At first I though this was some reference to the movie, but the movie came out 6 years later.

Anyone else notice this before? Is there any connection?
