Didn't really like this one

Great cast and everything but I didn't care much for the story. I haven't read the book and this is the first adaptation I've watched so maybe this just wasn't a good movie... I didn't like Emma much at all. I understand she was sexually frustrated but the way she treated her husband and daughter was awful.
I was also a little surprised by the nudity scene... felt like that one scene didn't fit in with the movie as Emma was fully clothed the rest of the time- even with her other lovers. Sort of gratuitous if you ask me!

I don't care much for the character either, and I've read a lot of classic Lit. Emma is harder to deal with (on the page and on teh screen) than Anna Karenina. She's a difficult character, so she's difficult to watch.

If you're willing to give her story another chance, there's a lengthier treatment in BBC's earlier miniseries starring Francesca Annis. But beware that this version is made with the older approach to production values, with poor lighting, stagey scenes, etc. The acting is superb and the costuming is lavish, though, so there are rewards as well. The story is told better and more completely.
