"Shriek" or "Scary Movie"? I know that they came out the same year. I just find it weird that the title is similar to the original title of "Scary Movie."

They were produced and shot at the same time, but "Shriek..." was released first.
The title for "Shriek..." is not similar to "Scary Movie". The only similarity is that they both started with "S". "Shriek"'s title is a parody of "Scream"'s title.

They were both filmed at the same time, and Scary Movie was released first and was popular. So they decided to release Shriek straight-to-DVD. And this did have a title similar to the original title to Scary Movie because Scary Movies's original title was Scream If You know What I Did Last Halloween.
