I liked the film, overall, but I found the songs really unsuitable for this film. They should have used some real aboriginal music, or instrumental music or no music at all. I understand that the songs were sung by an aboriginal singer and were maybe connected to the aboriginal world view. But the style of the music was just not right for the film.

But the style of the music was just not right for the film.Archie Roach is a pretty popular indigenous artist in Australia, but I agree. Too many of the songs I found to be plainly intrusive and some thematically did appear to be at odds with the onscreen content. share
All Men Choose The Path They Walk and the 4 minutes of film that accompanied that song told me more about those 4 characters than any exchange of dialogue could. That 4 minutes is some of my favorite story telling in a film. It was powerful stuff.
shareWhile it's not a soundtrack I would listen to on its own, I do think that the music worked well within the context of the film. While not a great movie by any stretch there's a strangeness to it which lingers in the memory, and the songs are a big part of the reason why.
