Love it or Hate it?

This movie seems to be pretty split down the middle with people either loving or hating it. I havn't seen it but I am a huge William Burroughs fan. I was just wondering if being a fan of his will make me feel any different about the movie? I don't really like that they are making a movie of Kerouac's On The Road but I think this is a little different it being more of a story about his life.

Well, the problem with this movie is that if you loved Burroughs, you probably loved everything after he accidentally killed his wife Joan. The Naked Lunch? Only after Joan. And this movie depicts a small snippet of his life until then. It actually shows more of what Joan did (might be ficticious as the story of the movie) before she died. So no, not really all that much about Burroughs. But it's good. There are some cool details about that whole circle, Allen Ginsberg is quite a big character and I think Jack Kerouac is featured as a character in the beginning.

See it as a movie, I think you'd at least find it interesting.

A stinker. The script is weak, as well as the directing and the casting is just horrendous. Who the hell came up with the idea of casting Kiefer Sutherland as Burroughs?!
A waste of time..

-I think we have to face up to reality.
-If we're lucky, reality is a firing squad.

Agreed. Sutherland's depiction of Burroughs isn't much more than a self-consciously one dimensional caricature. I really wanted to enjoy this, but found myself unable to watch anything beyond the halfway point. Completely unwatchable dreck.

i didn't love it or hate it & i detest courtney love. as others have said, sutherland was just not right, & neither was courtney. not only do they look NOTHING like the people they are portraying, but they didn't seem to embody any of their attributes. it isn't a film i would watch again. it just seems hollow. like an introduction to what could have been a compelling story with no meat to it. it probably sounds like i hated it, but i just feel nothing after watching it. neither here nor there, if that makes sense. if you have a 1.5 hrs to kill, go ahead & feed your curiosity, but don't expect to come away with any insight to burroughs, vollmer, or the beat generation.

That is the best analysis of this awful movie that I have read.
