Don't bother.

Courtney Love sucks in general, and Vollmer is rolling in her grave.

And Ron Livingston as Ginsberg, or Sutherland as Burroughs? Could we at least get actors who resemble the folks they're supposed to be playing?

F. Leave the poets the hell alone, you cheap plastic bastards.

reply

Yes, correct, don't bother with this. But then again, I know nothing about the real writers or whoever they're playing. I also fell asleep within the first 20 minutes. I shouldn't even be writing this. I am going to stop right now

Weller NAILED it.

...I guess I'll look around for this, give it a *shot,* but the casting seems absurd.

reply

No, he really didn't "Johnny". Courtney sucked, and so did the movie. Which is why no ones heard of it.

reply

I thought Ron Livingston made a fairly desent Allen Ginsberg. Keifer did a good "impression" of Burroughs but didn't fit the part at all.

Movie was disappointing.

reply

I'm glad a film has been made about the early part of the Beat's history.
But
It was not good, the script was not that great, and the acting.
Courtney Love as awful
Ron Livingston - enjoyable to watch
Keifer Sutherland - good actor, but certainly not William Burroughs.

Now what is needed is a serious team of Writers, Director and Producers and come up with a decent film about the origins of the Beat Generation.

The film did not inspire anyone (heck I was doing the ironing watching it!) and I just wish it did, as the Beat Generation was a fantastic era, and this film did not do it any justice.

reply

Well, you might be happy (or angry) to know that Walter Salles (Motorcycle Diaries) is supposedly making a movie of Kerouac's "On the Road."

It's here on IMDb, but I don't know if it's been updated recently.

reply

Agree, agree, agree.

What a mess of a movie.

Aw, this isn't so bad.

It's not great, but I found it fun to watch. Especially for Kiefer as Burroughs. He's pretty good.

It's never boring!

Janet! Donkeys!

I enjoyed watching Courtney Love and thought she did a good job. I agree with the resembling part, but I thought they both did a good job. Overall the movie was just good to me, nothing really spectacular and nothing horribly awful. I loved Norman Reedus though, yet again I always do...

reply

I don't think this movie is THAT bad, although apparently I'm in a minority. I've even heard Courtney Love talk about how awful it is, but I thought she was decent in this. Sutherland was whatever. Reedus and Livingston were good. It's an entertaining movie, and offers a perspective on Burroughs' life pre-Joan's death.

reply

SO agree!! Especially about Courtney love!! Horrible choice. For any movie.
