The Definitive Modern Fairytale

This film is the living embodiment of beauty, from the panache of the cinematography to the lovingly nuanced and impeccably crafted characters, the warm and endearing humour to the charm of the quirky and affectionate writing; this movie is joy and beauty encapsulated and it doesn't pretend to be anything more or anything less. This film manages to emulate within an adult context the same sensation i used to experience watching my favourite fairytales in childhood, it captures the nostalgic joy and magic of my past, repackaging it to resonate once again within my soul. Like all fairytales it is highly stylised and hence unrealistic; this is not a flaw but simply the essence of what makes fairytales such unparalleled and effective means of benevolent escapism, rounded out and strengthened by a little bit of magic.

Agreed, absolutely, 1000%! What a wonderful, magical film!

One of my favourites. If I'm channel surfing and I find this, it stays on. And the music...... incomparable all round.

Completely agree! A dream of a movie.

Amélie in super-ugly clunky shoes clomping around Paris is hilarious. It's definitely a touch of fairy tale magic photographed often by Delbonnel from her side at floor level, which may have required a tricky camera maneuver.

That gave a very "common" touch to a character who was a potential Cinderella.
