Fact #1- Lewis's (husband) original plan was to hang his wife, while her lover, Frank watched, then blow Frank away with the shotgun, and make it look she killed Frank and then hung herself (which would have never worked, any medical examiner or forensic type person would have known by figuring out the time of death that she died first and therefore, Lewis was lying). But anyhoo...
Fact #2- Kind of poetic that she did end up killing Frank, just like Lewis wanted everyone to think, according to his plan, and even further poetic that she wound up being hung, just like Lewis wanted everyone to think, according to his plan. So I am assuming, that she wasn't dreaming and that sometime shortly after she blasted Frank's ass into kingdom come, Lewis came and really did string her up, ergo, the layer of slime covering her whole body when cops found her dangling from the ceiling like a teabag.
There really isn't a definite explantion, but if Lewis didn't crawl out of the lake and hang her, how did she get that slime all over her?
I was also going to point out that this story didn't have a happy ending (yes, I know, the wife and the lover are adulterous swine), but adultery isn't really a crime worthy of death and Lewis was going to murder them. But then I realized, none of the stories in the whole dang movie had a happy ending, lol. Even the wrap around story ended kind of crappy, but at least the wife got away. Even though her husband got killed, and the real estate agency is going to murder John Ritter's son now, because he didn't sell them a house. <shrug> Over all, it was decent popcorn horror flick. Not at all as bad as some reviews would claim.

Don't know what the hell you're talking about. How in the hell would the medical examiner know that she was killed like a minute before him ????? .... are you kidding me??????????? The only question is what is up with the real estate company, but I guess they are just suppose to be crazy, as is the neighborhood.............

they can't tell exact time of death. they can only tell to the closest hour so it would be possible for him to do it that way. BUT the shot gun would leave powder on him and not her. So he would end up being convicted.

As far as the powder residue- he could always rub it off his hands and clothes and put it on her and then wash it off himself and get rid of the clothes he wore at the time. And he'd have to remember to wipe his prints off the gun and then put his wife's prints on it!
What I found amusing is that there's this knock-down, drag-out fight between the two men, with furniture being smashed all over, culminating in the boyfriend blowing a hole through the husband big enough to drive a VW through- and none of the neighbors hears anything or calls the cops. I thought that was hilarious!
Well, as we learn later, the whole neighborhood is pretty &%$#ed up, so the neighbors would have thought it was normal :)
