Great film but misses out on a key plot twist!!

Enjoyed the film & loved the dramatic trysts both in Luzhin's childhood & during the tournament.

However the film misses out on a key plot twist which was in the original novel whereby Luzhin spends hours analysing, preparing & practicing a defence against his opponent's signature offence which at the critical moment does not get used!! This should be key plot point for the movie and could have easily have been directed including Luzhin's subsequent mental breakdown because of it.

How many times both in Chess & in real-life have you prepared for a key moment such as an interview, sales-pitch, exam etc. and on the day itself events unfold in an unforseen manner. It highlights the importance of being able to think on your toes and be quickly adaptable to changing circumstances so as not to be caught off-guard.
