Like two movies squished together

At 3 hours it is too long, mainly because there is an extensive subplot that almost seems random. The subplot contains characters that are developed enough for us to care about them, but it seems like just an excuse to make the movie longer. Also, the film would benefit from extensive editing to speed up some of the scenes that drag on too long, seemingly for no reason.
