Leopold Bluhm/Bloom?

We were startled to notice that the principal character has the same (almost) name as one of the principal characters in James Joyce's Ulysses. Is this just a coincidence? Or did Ozon (or Fassbinder?) have some point in mind? None of the other characters seem to have anything to do with characters in Ulysses (and Leopold Bluhm certainly bears no resemblance to the Joyce character). Does anybody have any insight into what's going on here?
