Very excited they are re-issuing the series on PBS the day after the HBO movie Cinema Verité makes its debut this weekend. I haven't seen it since it aired and remember watching it in the 1970s. I never missed an episode. I was stunned seeing how amazing Tim Robbins looked like Bill Loud. Diane Lane might look a little like Pat Loud but sounds nothing like her. Pat was I guess a warm mother but a kind of frosty character. I wouldn't call her warm and fuzzy. It should be interesting how they pull it off. Lance Loud was one of a kind. I cannot imagine somebody being able to embody him in a made for HBO movie.
EDIT: It is airing tonight after Cinema Verité on HBO this evening April 23rd on my PBS station (Channel 13-WNET in NYC) from 11:00 PM all the way through finishing at 11:00 am tomorrow morning April 24th. Listed on my DVR guide as AMERICAN FAMILY, AN...strange I know, but if any of you are looking for it and think it is different, it is not. It is all that is showing on my Time Warner Guide.

I no longer have it, sorry ~ that was a long time ago, and the old 1971 series was kind of updated with specials, once it was released again.
It was initially {and actually called} 'An American Family'.
