Marshall vs TC

Just out of curiosity, was the head coach for Marshall based on Matthew M.'s character from "We are Marshall"? Did they already lose all those poor kids in the plane crash?

reply

'Remember the Titans" came out in 2000; "We Are Marshall" in 2006.

The Marshall plane crash happened on Nov. 14, 1971. The state title game for T.C. Williams was on Dec. 4.

So obviously the T.C. Williams kids and coaches would have known about it, but it would probably not have been a big factor in their thinking.

We are Marshall was based on a college football team.

Actually, one of the schools TC Williams played had Marshall ties. One of the schools head coach was a former Marshall player & graduate. He later went on to become Marshall's head coach. In a nine year span he went 94-23. At Marshall he lead the Thundering Herd to:

1 Division I-AA National (1996)
1 SoCon (1996)
5 MAC (1997?2000, 2002)
6 MAC East Division (1997?2002)
Awards
2x MAC Coach of the Year (1997?1998

jaystarstar is correct We are Marshall come out in 2006, and Remember the Titans came out in 2000. So how can any head coach be based of Matthew M's character? And the other big difference is that Remember the Titans it is high school footbal, and We are Marshall is college football.
