It doesn't bother me that Sunshine is gay. What bothers me

is that he is able to get away with being gay especially in high school and at that time.

No way, no how would he live that down and that would have been forgotten like that.
Someone on the team is going to be spreading the word that SS is gay and maybe he would have even been literally killed for it. They would not have just brushed it off when he kisses one of the star players.
This is just a bogus, falsified movie where anyone gets away with anything. But in real life? Nope. He would have been outed.

The thing about THAT OS HE WASN'T GAY!!!!!!!!! They called him that because he had long California hair. Those hicks weren't used to that.

Gary called him a fruitcake earlier that day. Sunshine was messing with him. He wasn't gay, but he was more open-minded than most for the time. That's why he didn't see why there woukd be a problem with him going into a restaurant with his friends who were black.
