Why didn't he kill himself?

[SPOILERS]

If he knew he could kill himself why didn't he do that early on. I would have said goodbye to Sarah and then killed myself - or submitted myself to the doctors for study - thinking if they couldn't help they could at least hunt down the zombies or figure out how to prevent it for other people and then have them kill me - I'm sure they would since he's already dead and in pain!

I didn't get that either---really good film,BTW. I don't understand why he didn't take himself to the hospital, when it finally became clear that he wasn't going to get any better---that way, he could have at least had someone to leave his notes to. I also didn't understand why he never contacted the girlfriend and told her what happened to him----apparently he didn't want her to see the monster he'd become---but,still he should've given her some kind of closure,at least. And I think he just wanted to hold on to every bit of life he had left, considering what was happening to him.

That said----I really liked I,ZOMBIE and was kind of impressed by it----couldn't help but compare it to another British zombie flick called COLIN, which is also another film seen through a zombie's point of view (I,ZOMBIE is definitely the better of the two, though.) Was also surprised to find out the lead actor hasn't done anything else to date, because he was pretty good in it----as were the rest of the cast.

If you don't mind me asking, (I'm in quite a different mode than I was in when I wrote this post) why do you like these zombie stories?

Last night I was in a self-help group (and at the moment listening to something really funny: http://www.npr.org/2014/01/22/264878772/skeptic-takes-a-tour-of-self-helps-promise-land) - and one-on-one I told the moderator who was probably twenty years younger than me that few people ever understand why I like horror (and why I also turn away from it mostly these days).

To this day have not met many people who like it for the reasons I do, but surely there are many.

Well, basically, I grew up watching horror movies (the old school classic ones--sorry for the late reply--haven't been to this board in a while) and have always liked them, so that includes zombie flicks as well. Plus, I like being scared by scary movies. Basically, in a nutshell, the better zombie movies in the last couple of years seem to be foreign ones, so that also makes them a little more exciting to watch. Zombie films have become even more popular in the last five years for some reason, and this particular one I thought was unique because for once it's from the zombie's point of view, which made it different form all the other run-of-the-mill zombie flicks.

I have to admit, though, I've gotten sick of tired of seeing gore in horror flicks because I feel it's something horror directors tend to fall back on too much when they don't have a good solid story to back the movie up---it's like, "Well, we know the movie really sucks, so we'll just throw in lots of shocks and sick disgusting gore to cover up the fact that it's not even that good!" Fro example--I just saw the recent horror thriller DELIVER US FROM EVIL, and it was pretty good, but some of the gore wasn't all that necessary----particularly since there was nothing really original about the film itself---the folks who made the film acted as if they had to put in as much gore as possible to scare an audience. Thing is,gore dosen't scare me anymore--it just grosses me out,period--I don't like it anymore. I know some gore is necessary for certain scenes, but when hey go overboard with, is what I don't like. Other then that, I still like horror flicks, regardless,
