what was the movie saying

was the movie saying that tradition is superior to inovation? what point was it trying to make? Lynn

reply

The movie doesn't say anything about inovation being inferior. It does say that there is wisdom in ancient ways. Just because the reason for doing something might have been forgotten doesn't mean it's superstitious non-sense. The practice might have come about in the first place through years of experience and yes, inovation (i am sure the first pass in the mountain cliff was built this way).

Why does it have to "say" anything? Why do we in the West always have to moralize films? This movie was made to capture the characteristics of a people who are "melting away like snow in the sun." It wasn't a vehicle to push another lesson down our throats.

(If you doubt what I'm saying, watch the Behind the Scenes/"Making Of" on the DVD.)
