Where they actors? They seemed so real

reply

Well, yes and no... no real professionals anyway. Thilen who plays Tinlé, the Chief is a real Chief of village in the Dolpo (Very high Tibetan part of the Nepal). He's an old friend of the director who had lived 2 years there and a year in Nepal. Nyma who plays the Lama is a real Lama from Tibet who escaped to India through Dolpo. Gurgon Kyap who plays the so of teh other clan and will lead eventually is a real "yak-pa" a Yak driverfrom the Amdo in the East of Tibet; to escape Chinese domination he escaped to India whre he became a cook... but he's now trying to make a living as an actor
LHAPKA TSAMCHOE is the only real actress. She grew up in the South of India far from her cultural grounds. I like to think that she wouldn't have been so beautiful if her skin had to endure the harsh condition of the Dolpo. She started acting in Jean-Jacques Annaud's Seven years in Tibet...
The kid who plays Passang accomplished his dream and is now studying in Katmandou...
