Why was this a penalty?

I've noticed that on Season 3 if you've touch the rails you'll get an automatic third place? Why was this against the rules and why was it against the rules to jump over the Boulder Canyon at the beginning of the Aggro Crag.

reply

You can touch the rails but you can't go over it. In the early episodes of the third season (i.e. Jessie/Erin/Joshua), they made a rule where you can't touch the rails (Joshua was DQ'd for touching the rails), but they relaxed the rules in later episodes. But it was still illegal to go over the rails. The rails were meant to keep the players straying off their side. In one episode (Phil/Eric/Kate), Eric was DQ'd for crossing over on Kate's side. Also, Phil was DQ'd for missing an acuator. That DQ caused Eric to finish thierd overall. Phil barely beat Kate by 50 points.

And it's against the rules to not go through all of the boulders in Boulder Canyon because it BC is a part of the course that they must complete to receive the right amount of points. In one episode, Laura/Derek/Tina, both Laura and Tina got disqualified for missing BC and that's why they finished way ahead of him. Tina's DQ cost her the gold medal. Boulder Canyon imcompletions were evident in Global GUTS, because some players were DQ for doing that. For example, Artiom had the game won, but was DQ'd. He ended up finishing second to Amit.

By the way if you want the Laura, Derek and Tina scores, here they are:
Laura 100 100 100 300 375 975
Derek 200 200 300 200 725 1625
Tina 300 300 200 100 375 1275
Events competed: Zero G, Fumble, Tornado Run, Dodge It.

Phil/Eric/Kate scores:
Phil 200 200 300 300 375 1375
Eric 300 300 100 100 375 1175
Kate 100 100 200 200 725 1325
Events competed: Triple Jump, Slap Shot, White Water, Bullseye.

You sure were very helpful with the info you've given me and I'm also interested in the scores of the Jessie/Erin/Joshua episode, I'm awful glad that there weren't many episodes on GUTS to where more than one player recieved an automatic third place on GUTS, I remember seeing 2 players get an automatic third place on the Jason/Rawley/Gary episode.

Me too, I don't recall an episode from the first two seasons where 2 players have gotten an automatic third place, the automatic penalties on the first two episodes were fairly rare.

There's the common penalty of missing an actuator. Usually before the contestant hits the final actuator, the spotters make the contestants go back if they're missing one. But in some cases like Iris/Angela/Jeremy or Jenifer/Nicholas/Alexandre, the spotters don't remind the contestants, and the contestants end up getting third place (like Iris, Angela, and Alexandre).

I do agree with you on the episodes where one contestant gets a perfect score and the other two contestants are far behind cause you already know who's gonna win, I always like it when the contestants are close to each other and it's still anybody's game just before the Aggro Crag, like you're saying I do like it when the kids screw up as long as they're not mad about it.

Not gonna lie, I'd love to see an episode where a kid starts spazzing because they aren't doing so well. That'd be really interesting.

On one episode, this kid was having trouble on the pool event where you pull yourself across and go around the buoys (can't remember what it's called) and so on the way back he just stopped going around the buoys. and on the angela/keith/pat episode, keith looked really mad that he got second place and not first. Mike even mentions that keith looked upset.

I remember the episode with the boy not going around the buoys cause he was having trouble, I was really dissapointed when he'd gotten to take home the silver instead of the bronze cause I didn't enjoy watching him at all.

I know I would've been happy enough to appear on GUTS, I thought the events in the third and 4th season were more difficult than the events on the first two seasons.

maci, that episode that you were referring to with the buoys was Bryan, Nick, Derek. Derek was the one that didn't go around the buoys. That event was called Skurfin' Safari. Here's the scores:

Bryan 300 300 100 100 375 1275
Nick 100 200 300 300 550 1450
Derek 200 100 200 200 725 1425

Bryan and Nick were tied with 900 heading to the crag.

Events played: Peak to Peak, Skurfin' Safari, Touchdown, Slam-A-Jama.
