The guy from clueless is Paul Rudd! I love him! He's adorable and hes a great actor. He was Brian from Anchorman...one of the best movies ever. I didnt watch this movie in class but we are reading the novel in class. I watched this movie in the summer before I knew I would be reading it for school. I think Mira Sorvino is a bad actress. Something about her was not convincing at all. I didnt like the girl who played Myrtle either.

I remember a few years ago when we read The Great Gatsby in English class, I tried to get my teacher to show us this version because I liked Paul Rudd. She said it wasn't that good, and we watched the Robert Redford one instead (which we thought was bad anyway... Mia Farrow, what the heck?). I finally rented the A&E version the other day and have only watched half of it so far. The music and some of the gimmicks (flashbacks, slow motion) make it seem like a bad early-90s made-for-TV movie.

we watched the beginning in class and the first thing i noticed was that daisy's hair was all wrong. in the 1920s women did not have long hair their hair was in a bob, usually straight like jordans or crimped... daisys hair was too modern...

I read the book in the class.LOL

Daisy doesn't die, that was Myrtle, Tom Buchanan's' mistress.

I'll admit, I like some aspects of the 1974 film but this version was MUCH BETTER because it was so much more faithful to the novel and Daisy wasn't so dramatic like Mia Farrow was with the character, she overdone it a bit, Mira Sorvino didn't.

We just watched the part in class today where Myrtle gets run over and the entire class cracked up laughing because it was so cheesy. Our teacher told us that we were horrible for laughing and rewound it so we could see it again which caused us to laugh harder.
I prefer the Robert Redford one because it was the one we all watched in class.

Watching it right now in class. Probably one of the best adaptations of a book to movie that I've seen in a while... then again the last book to movie that I saw (and read the book before seeing the movie) was Blood and Chocolate and that was crap. I adore both the book and movie. Still not as much fun as watching Shakespeare in Love in order to "better under stand a great play write". That made me laugh very hard.

You saw the TV version? We just started watching the old version.
