I've seen, if I remember correctly, three movies with Maribel Verdú: this one, Belle epoque, and Y tu mamá también. Does she give anyone else the impression that all she seems to be able to do is pout, give silly little affected smiles, and try to force people to fall in love with her? I've heard people say she's such a great actress, but I haven't seen too much evidence of that thus far. Can anyone recommend a film that might change my opinion of her?
shareAt her age, and with her looks, that is all that she really has to do. However, the scene in Y tu mama tambien where she makes a phonecall to her husband and find that he is cheating on her....well that was a difficult scene for an actress but one that she did brillantly.
shareA very good question. Well, that's exactly what some people want her to do in their movies. That's the problem with attractive actresses. Maribel Verdú is a good actress (though not a great one, in my opinion), is not a mere "silly smiling girl". Unfortunateliy, she had to do a lot of films because she was an erotic myth who sells movie tickets.
I recommend you the Spanish film "La buena estrella" (aka: "Lucky Star"). A great movie that demonstrates the talent of the three main actors: Antonio Resines, Maribel Verdú and Jordi Mollá. In this movie you can see also the real talent (a big one) of Antonio Resines, unfortunately condemn to do a lot of silly movies playing a role of a poor dope.

shareShe just recently played a very good role in Pan´s Labryinth (El Labyrintho del Fauno). No love story, no pouting, just a good story line. If you haven't seen it already I would recommend it.
