THE Best of its kind

I watched this for about the third or fourth time...and felt compelled to note here that it is by far just about the best film of its kind. I can't think of any other film that comes close.
A & E Network is to be congratualted!

Only problem with it, it's way too short.

To see the only real monster, one must only look in the mirror.

Well,,i thought this movie was good up until the Christmas crossing. The dialogue and the planning i found pretty captivating. However,,the battle itself was so horrendously choreographed and filmed, that it basically ruins the movie. The uniforms of the Hessians especially, looked like they came right out of a Hollywood wardrobe closet. I have read that David McCullough's book 1776 is being made into a miniseries a' la John Adams. Lets hope that HBO does a better job at presenting the battle of Trenton then did this movie. Though as far as books go, David Hacklett Fisher's "Washington's Crossing" was FAR FAR superior to McCullough's work.

I wish it were longer too! Love Jeff Daniels in historical roles.

I agree with the OP in that this movie is the best of it's kind about the American Revolution. I had my doubts at first that he could pull it off (who really could?) but I thought Jeff Daniels did a terrific job of portraying General Washington. Sebastian Roche & Roger Rees were also great in their roles as Washingtons' 2nd & 3rd in command well. I also thought that the look of the costumes was accurate & the pacing was good. I don't agree with some people here who criticize the battle scenes as taking away from the movie. Considering this was a low budget movie, I thought the Battle of Trenton looked pretty believable. I mean it wasn't on the massive scale of "Glory" or "Braveheart" but when you get down to it, it's not the most important thing here. The goal of this film was to show an up close characterization of Washington & his men struggling to survive in the winter of 1776. I thought the actors & filmmakers did a marvelous job.

I would love to see Hollywood do a big budget movie about Washington (Kinda like John Adams)) & our other founding fathers someday that not only shows their exploits in the Rev War but also shows them back in their early days & in their later years as well. It will probably never happen though cuz most people out there are either ignorant about history or just don't have the interest to see something like that. Oh well. At least we still have the History Channel right?

I have to definitely agree with OP and Zach, this is a fantastic film. I saw it in my American History class my Junior Year in HS and I went straight home the day it ended in class and ordered the DVD off of eBay... Superb film. Infact I think I will show this when me and my friends gather this wednesday night, I think they would enjoy it aswell.

We can DO IT ALLLL DAY LONG, (We'll have to pay more for the light bill if we do it at night!)

nice thoughts all.
I just realized the whole film is like a painting! watch it again and see if you agree. you could stop it almost anywhere..after the Washington shaving scene....and there on...just still frame anything and it's a painting! I'll check the cine. at the end.

Washington is probably the best example of a war hero turned president. Want to see some others? Check out this list and tell me what you think!
