could it be the music?

ALl the 'best game of all time' have one thing in common, they all have exceptionally high quality music, usually from such and such composer.

Well no doubt all the best games of all time would have the best parts of everything for its time, there are games that get lost, which are great, and more than worthy of being called 'greatest game of all time' by a bunch of fanboys, but aren't.

I mean, we have Zelda: OOT, FInal Fantasy series, Super mario bro series (yes, kinda different but the music is still a standout :p), erm, more but I can't remember :P

Then we got other great games that never hit big, like secretes of evermore which lacked the epic music...

just an observation...

Final Fantasy Series weren't the best series if it wasn't for it's music...(including Chrono)...

Yeah I gotta agree with that...especially Final Fantasy(which I still love A LOT btw). Nobou does a wonderful job composing haunting and beautiful music. Personally I don't think some of the newer FF games(it kinda gets stale after 7) are great, but I think the music is what made me continue to play.

Chrono Trigger wouldn't have been the same without Yasunori's music too but considering the gameplay and graphics it was basically one of the top games of the day....even without the music.

I'd have to say this game has by far the best video game music by far... In those areas of the game where it gets all cinematic-ky, the music becomes a character on its own which speaks alongside the characters onscreen... And one of the songs made me feel like crying...
