The nature of Causality...

Something's just occured to me:

Chrono and friends go to the Future, and find out about Lavos.
They then go and stop it happening.
Therefore, there was nothing for them to find out when they went to the future
Therefore, they wouldn't have stopped it happening
As a result, it happend
as a result, it didn't.

oh yeah, and at the end, Doan says "You saved the future, and gave us hope". How would he know? It never happend!

anyone else slightly confused? I'm sure there are more paradoxes

I don't think they meant the end of the world as literally the destruction of the planet, but as devastation to humanity. When the group travels into the future it is already past the date when Lavos emerged from within the Earth.

I never said that, I just pointed out that they knew about the Day of Lavos, and then changed history so that it wouldn't happen. If it never happend, they wouldn't have found out about it in 2300 AD, therefore they would not have incentive to do anything about it.

now your just thinking to much about time travel

time travel has been part of story telling for so long and since we havnt achieved it yet no one can tell for real how this works.

another flaw in time travel:
Crono from 1000 AD 1 of july 11th hour bumps into his journey and stops lavos

but Crono from 1000 AD 1 of july 12 the hour doesnt bump into his journey resulting in not saving the future.

every micro of a micro of a micro second is a different time line , and only corresponds to the second in the future that links to its time line.
so theres no way 1 crono saved the world because every time line would have been doomed

so literly billjons and billjons of cronos all in theyr own micro second timeline goes to save the world

IN chrono trigger it happens on a single timeline thats why they can change stuff and see its effects like the sunstone etc.

In chrono cross the dimensions split when thers an important event..or thats what i understood...

And for hte original poster:ure alwyas stuck with paradoxes when it comes to time travel but i guess the way i see it is that Crono and team visit the future before it enters the tesseract (dead sea in CC). when they kill lavos the future is dumped into the tesseract and theyve already been there and dnt have to go there aynmore. theres probably many flaws with ive said but oh wel ! Chrono tigger > all other rpgs Lol
