Mmmmmm ... I don't know. Kind of a woman's movie.

My favorite moment was when Mona was in the isolation booth and Vanessa catches her eye after Miss Tennessee's question - Vanessa gives Mona the thumbs down sign indicating Miss Tennessee's answer was bad.

Big problem tho - the ending was vague about the future of the characters. Okay, Mona admitted that Vanessa was her child. But what happens now? Does Vanessa move in with Mona? How would Vanessa feel about that? She has a mother - Ruby. What kind of mother could Mona possibley make? Okay, she made a brave decision, she learned a little something about herself and life - but that doesn't instantaneously make a person a dedicated and responsible parent.

Entertaining film if you're willing to suspend disbelief all over the place.

if you watch the end of the movie it shows Joey Lauren Adams character being released from jail and they all drive away in a car together

reply

That made me mad!!! I watched it on Oxygen and they shrunk the credits so you could barely see them driving off. maybe I can find it in the video store??? --Jennifer

Ruby, Vanessa and Mona all lived together. I think it was Ruby's grandmother's house. Don't you remember the scene where Mona scolds Vanessa for messing with her dance floor and mike stand? Later, she gets mad at Vanessa and Ruby for making too much noise while she practices singing.

So, after Mona's revelation, all three of them go back to their home and live more or less like they did before.

I agree with you, I love this movie. The movie was funny. I really like the part when they're in the bathroom and the ladies were asking Vannese where did she belong and she started yelling at them and told the lady to move. So funny.

reply

I love the lines:

-I just want to know where I belong.
-You belong in the family booth.

I adore this movie. I love Minnie Driver and I love her rendition of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?

For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are those 'It might have been.'

Couldn't agree more!! Perfect part for minnie driver to play since she is indeed beautiful and can sing very well!!

I have a question about this movie. I've been reading up on it and still have no idea weather or not it has swearing and/or sexual related things in it. Can anyone tell me if there is or not?

reply

Maybe a couple of cuss words and when Minnie Driver's character wins her first pageant, the runner up asks if she won by sucking all of the judges well you know and she said no, that she skipped her dad because he was too small. Also her step dad tries to make advances at her when she's younger. Other than that, nothing else. Are you trying to show it to somebody that is young? It's a good movie with several different messages to it.

I just watched this today. I really loved it. It makes me wonder why it's so underrated. Sure it isn't the most dramatic or best movie out there, but it's pretty cute and I liked the plot, in any case it's a lot better than a lot of the crap they put out there nowadays.

I love the little girl, she's so cuuuute. I like when she's playing soccer in the hallway and lunges into the hotel room to show how quick she could hide if someone came.

I think your tastes in good films hasn't evolved yet. Don't worry, it will. Give it time. Personally, this film was so ridiculous and awful. The little girl was such a brat you wanted Judge Duty to shout her down, and how could Mona be in all those pagents after all the *beep* she pulls off. Who was in charge of all of them-Lance *beep* Ito?

reply

Agreed it's a great comedy - as for Minnie Driver..it's like I tell
my daughters, hair is everything as far as looks go. Look at Minnie at the beginning with the overly curly hair, and contrast this with her winning
with the straightened hair - a world of difference, the straight hair made
her look beautiful..(even though I suspect it was a wig)
