Andromon is very powerful? Season 1.

In the English version, during his Digimon Analyzer bit, Palmon(?) tells us he is one of the strongest digimon known. This doesn't say much though, since all any of them know are Digimon from File island at that point, and it's coming from the mouth of a rookie.

But he does take on Machinedramon in the Dark Master Arc, and actually holds his own in a long melee with Piedmon, buying time for the others.

He's Ultimate, I think, by classification, which is strange for a File island digmon, but I think he's not a standard Ultimate. Like Angemon is a champion, but wields power much greater than any ordinary one.

I found his character in season 1 to be interesting.

Yeah I loved that he was this unassuming little android and he was just randomly one of the most powerful digimon. It was so awesome. I always love surprise things like that. It's just not something you'd expect with him being an android, about the same size as an adult human, but still he's just so powerful.

I agree that I think he's not a standard Ultimate. I'm pretty sure he took on digimon that were a level ahead of ultimate and still came out ahead.

I forgot I even made this post!

But yeah, he also tackles Machinedramon, sorta. Grapples with that big guy's knees before getting thrown back. He is unassuming! Kind of peaceful, like a peaceful giant, but small like you said. I could see him sitting with a bunch of birdies or something.

LOL well you made it in 2012 so I was hoping I wasn't responding TOO too late...but it looks like I kind of did anyway lol. You know, I'm really impressed with how active this board is!

LOL birdies. OMG I love that. I agree. He reminds me of Android 16 in Dragonball Z, but better written and more 3-dimensional. I love how he's kind of opaque and unexplained - he's just this gentle dude who just happens to be ridiculous powerful - so you can interpret him in all sorts of ways.

It is so weird you mentioned Android 16. When I wrote 'birdies', when I was thinking of it, I couldn't place where that thought came from, but Android 16 was exactly it. I kept trying to conjure some memory of Andromon with birdies, because it seemed so fitting. I liked 16 also, or rather the Android saga of that show.

I notice on this board, for season 01, there are topics from ALL of the digimon seasons, and season 01 gets hardly any posts at all. Like this is the place to congregate for Digimon chats of all kind. I was a little disappointed because I only ever saw 01 and 02, and didn't much care for 02 at all.

I've heard that English voice overs very different from the original Japanese. Or there are subtle cuts and changes of meaning. Like, one I could suspect is when Pumpkinmon and Rock...mon(?) are destroyed in the alley by Myotismon, it's clear they've been vaporized, killed - deleted! But the voice over by Myotismon informs us they've been sent to a 'dungeon' in the digital world.

FOX fluffing it up for kids? I would download the subbed version of this anime any day if I knew how to find it. Sort of 'see' it all over again in a different way. As far as voice-acting goes, for the sheer amount of voices that were used, English is surprisingly varied in talents. Even voices we hardly hear at all are kind of interesting, like Birdramon, who always sounds like she's in some kind of hormonal agony when she speaks.

okay, i'm sorry, my inner-child just had to get all that out. This show was what I lived for when I was 13, staying up early in the morning to catch it on FOX Kids.

I only ever saw 01 and 02 as well, but I loved them both, but I just loved 01 moreso. I loved all the characters of 2 and the way the plots sort of branched out. The only thing I didn't like about two was it's last arc and episodes and the epilogue. It didn't end properly.

I've also heard that the dub is quite different. I'm most interested in how the epilogue is different. There are some sources that say the epilogue in the original Japanese said that TK and Kari DID get married; there was some mention of some character calling another uncle that kind of confirmed it. I'm not sure though. I started a thread about it but no one seems to know. And apparently it was just overall more satisfying.

I think FOX probably did change a few things, but overall I've heard that the dub actually isn't so bad - like you said the English voices were pretty good and varied - and I think the fact that they went to such trouble to change death to something as elaborate as sending someone to a dungeon in the digital world indicates that they tried to do the changes with some care and attention to story.

Don't worry about your inner-child! Apparently the news series Xros Wars/Fusion actually has the Adventures characters and that has ME SO PUMPED. I always wanted the characters to show up again so this has the potential to be so cathartic and I'm wayyyy more excited than an adult should be. I LOVED this show. I really just always wished that they continued with the Adventures characters until FOREVER.

So do I! If by this you mean the 'original' characters from 01, I wish it had gone on and on. When I watched 02, it was only T.K. and Kari's roles that kept me interested, they were always my favorite from the first season, and their digimon. 02 just felt... it didn't feel the same, I couldn't get used to the new crew. I developed such a strong emotional attachment to the adventure in the very first.

02 was pretty interesting though, I shouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, more like my love for 01 overpowers it completely. I liked where they took the digivolutions, though, some interesting 'mixtures' of the digimon.

I still LOVE this show. I rewatched all of 01 in June and thoroughly enjoyed it, even as an adult now. Such nostalgia, and a different sort of appreciation for it. Like, the artwork, I love the style Digimon had. You ever notice that nearly all backgrounds are peppered with these soft, slightly blended 'snowballs'? I've never seen it in any other anime, it's just an stylistic quirk, I think, but I like it. Somehow... it makes the scenery more complicated, without being obtrusive.

I've not heard of Xros Wars/Fusion, but that's not surprising. I wiki'd it to see what it was about, and saw a little list of the characters and their digimon and suddenly remembered how much fun it was to wonder when this digimon or that digimon was gonna digivolve. Wondering if this was the Saturday where we'd see someone go Ultimate.

good times.

I was probably most invested in Kari and TK, but I loved all the characters from 02 as well, especially Davis and Yolei. I'm always a sucker for an unrequited love thing, so I liked Davis a lot. I would have been happy if they kept with them, mixed in with the 01 characters making appearances and becoming main characters for long arcs. I think it was necessary to see the 01 characters grow up, but it also would have been so compelling to watch them go back to that sort of kid-like adventure of the digital world and show that you never really outgrow that. I liked the idea of them as mentor-ish, and then maybe realizing they can be adventurers too no matter what their age. Either way I wouldn't want to just kiss 02 goodbye! I liked it a lot, and I actually can't imagine JUST sticking with the 01 characters now. I'd want to see all of them. Just in general I just wanted the whole Adventures world and characters to perpetuate, hopefully with no more aging past 02. I just want them all mixed up and having more adventures!

I see what you mean, but I think the difference between us is that I just think of 01 and 02 as just one thing and I'm invested in both of them as whole, while I think you separate the two. I'm too invested in the 01 characters and what they became in 02 to just ignore 02. I definitely found 01 more powerful and epic and perhaps loved it more, but I love them both as one big world and just kind of wish the ending episodes of 02 and the epilogue never happened so they could keep going and maybe lead to something more satisfying. I liked the idea of the grown up, more well-adjusted 01 characters in 02, and they're obviously being quite close without the same issues, but they were still just teenagers so I feel like they could have gone back to those 01 characters as main characters if they just kept with the story.

I don't know why they felt the need to change the cast and world every season. Sure, it opened up some possibilities, but Pokemon has gone on FOREVER with Ash never aging. I don't see the problem. They could have come up with more stories! I guess one of the things is that Digimon always linked the character development to the larger stories so they might have felt once those characters had grown they just deserved their ending and that would be that. Ugh...Well hopefully Xros Wars will be something.

Did you watch it on DVD? And with the Fox English dub? I'm a little frightened that my fond memories could be tainted with my new boring, grown up perspective, but you just reassured me a little! I'm considering going back and watching it myself, but idk...I'm worried. And I feel like the nostalgia and desire for more of those characters would just KILL me.

Apparently a lot of the 01 characters showed up or are gonna show up on it, so I'm very interested in it, but I just have no idea what it's about. I'm hoping someone on this board knows and can tell me lol!

Hey, I know this is from a while back ago, but I was wondering how you re-watched season 1? Was it via dvd, or online somewhere? If online, could you pm me the site? Thanks! And it was the dub right? I just read somewhere that apparently the dub is an improvement on the original, which is cool. Nice to know my childhood had even higher quality entertainment than it could have! Usually dub-watchers are supposed to be philistines lol.

OH BTW, about those blended snowballs in the background, thinking back, that was actually probably a little clever way of signifying that it was all a digital world they were in, and those were like, pixel-y things or something.
