I found that annoying as well

Seriously dude. I mean how dumb could they have been? I don't remember which episode it was exactly 40th or 41st but when LadyDevimon was killed by Silphymon and Shakoumon killed MarineDevimon, Cody and Yolei acted like something horrible happened.
What else were they supposed to do? Send them to jail?

Also how Davis was portrayed like a brat and yet was the leader. Isn't T.K. the most experienced of the lot? Shouldn't he be the leader by default?

Yes TK and Kari should have taken more leadership roles but they were overpowered by the loudmouths Davis and Yolei.

In season 1 they didn't start killing Digimon until the end of the real world saga. Before then most of the Digimon were under the control of dark gears or had something happen that didn't actually kill them, like Etemon. They only started killing out of desperation. In season 2 it would be perfectly understandable for them to not want to kill since most of them never killed before and the ones who had were small children at the time unable to understand the consequences of death

Technically they killed Bakemon(Joe and Sora in The Dancing Digimon). But yeah, they started pretty early on when it became apparent that there was no other alternative. They couldn't run away to the real world or anything like that. It was a much more realistic portrayal than what we got in season 2.

I agree with you about all of these points. First off I didn't see Davis as the leader and I don't think many of the main characters did either. In the fourth episode of the season because of his jerky attitude and near disastrous lead I took it as an unspoken agreement among the other members of the group not to follow him as a leader. I also think since nobody else was both willing and able to lead and seeing that group needed leadership, T.K. took upon himself to lead the group with Kari as the second in command.
About them killing Digimon as most of them they encountered (during the Digimon Emperor arc as well as when Arukenimon lured them to the Giga House)were brainwashed slaves I can see why they didn't kill many of them. What I mean by many is one episode a black ring controlled Airdamon was killed by Angewomon and an Ebidramon was possibly killed by Ikkakumon when the new kids met Joe. They were not upset when Kimeramon was destroyed even though he was debatedly as evil if not more than the Daemon Corps members. All of the Daemon Corps members threatened someones life both Skullsatamon and Marinedevimon endangered large group of people. I also get the impression they would have killed Daemon if they had the power seeing, as he laughed off nearly any attacks he was hit with also they considered simply sending him back to the digital world but he revealed he could travel to and from the digital world easily.
Having said these things, what upset me the most about the second season was that in the epilogue it wasn't said that T.K. and Kari ended up together. I am not interested in any other couples or possible couples of the first two seasons. I have plenty of reason to believe they got married in the original and by extension the dub it just isn't mentioned in the dub. In the dub they are very close friends, very trusting and supportive of each other, and I don't know about the reverse but T.K. is very protective of Kari in both season, this is shown at least twice in the first and second season. In (at least) the dub of the second season they seem to flirt not really caring if anybody sees it or not.
If you do not agree with me that is fine with me just do not criticize anything I have said.

I also hated that they never said T.K. and Kari ended up together. That was by far the worst thing about the second season. They were a great couple. "His Master's Voice" is like my all time favorite episode. I just wish they would have kept the arc they started in that one going.

In Season 1, the characters had no choice. They were stuck in perilous situations with dangerous Digimon on a frequent basis. They had to kill to survive, let alone stop evil from winning. Since Season 2 was more low-stake, the kids had never faced something like killing Digimon before. That's why they didn't want to defeat The Daemon Core.

Actually, you want to know the main thing I hated about this season: that it reeked so highly of writer's apathy. I still enjoyed it, but this is the only season I've seen that made almost give on the show on more than one occasion...especially during that whole "Destiny Stone" fiasco that went absolutely nowhere in the end... >_>

You know, I don't understand why season 2 is so polarizing. Personally, I loved revisiting the characters from the first season, and I loved the sort of mystery, two-faced element to Ken, I loved the standalone episodes and the villains and I remember the plotting being interesting, and I loved the new configurations for digimon, and I loved all the characters. Mind you, this was years ago when I watched when it first aired, and I'm sure I'd feel differently if I watched it as an adult, but at the same time I remember specific scenes and dialogue quite fondly. It wasn't as epic and dramatic as perhaps the first season, but I thought it was a lot of fun. Except for the epilogue, which should have been more.

BUT Xros Wars apparently revisits these characters! I have no idea what to expect, but that's very, very cathartic to me considering the disappointing epilogue and how much I loved these characters as a kid.

I've actually covered my issues with the season, but it'd take too long to re-iterate them all. So you can just look at the thread I started and read it there.

I'd also recommend checking out the Digimon Zero-Two retrospective an online reviewer by the name of JesuOtaku did a few years back. She gives an extensive analysis of the season that does more justice to its pros and cons than I could ever attempt...

reply

Nahhh I don't really want to taint my memory with any extensive critiques of my favorite show as a kid. I'd rather keep the fond memories as is. It ultimately doesn't matter who liked what anyway; it's all just subjective opinion so nbd.

I can't argue with you there. When I was a little boy, I had no idea why they are worried about killing them if they actually did it in season 1.

I am so in love with Buffy

The one thing I didn't like was the 25 years later epilogue.
