This movie is so weird

I am watching it right now, and it is just weird. I don't get it.

What do you find weird about it?
These are simply seperate stories of different women and their lives..

i love it. its one of my all-time favorite films.

This film actually grew on me. At first I was unsure whether I liked it or not, the second viewing was more positve.

Now, when thinking of it, I have almost only good things to say about it (except perhaps on a couple of the actresses, which I don't like, but that's beside the point.)

They blew up Congress!!! HAHAHA!

I kind of felt the same way when I first watched it. I think it's one of those movies where you have to see it again or even a few times to fully appreciate it..

Actually, for me, it was one of those movies I loved as I watched it because of the layered depth I perceived in the stories. The scene where Holly Hunter's character breaks down in the street after her abortion was raw and captivating, Cameron Diaz was a revelation in her role, and, for the most part, the acting was top notch.

It's one of those film I greatly respect and have always kept active in the back of my mind.

Spoilers, man.

I didn't get it the first time either. But after reading the posts and seeing it again, to me it's a out women and the choices we make and don't make. How we can be trapped by fears and sometimes need someone else to show us the way.

she loved poetry and romance, but she hit the glass ceiling at birth

I saw it the first time in October 2013 on cable/satellite. The vignette with Kathy Baker caught my attention. Upon seeing it again, I keep wondering if Gregory Hines was Holly Hunter's Ob/Gyn's husband? No?

reply

The theory was that he was the husband of the dead woman, since the dead woman had a direct impact on all of the women's lives. If Gregory was married to her doctor, that removes the direct impact of the character. She becomes a bystander in Holly's life.

I just saw it for the first time, and I have mixed feelings about it. The acting is superb, but I felt some things were left somewhat unresolved. But that could have been the intent. Maybe I'll try watching it again sometime, but for right now I have no desire to.
