Much Ado About Nothing?

Is it just me, or was this movie sort of based on Much Ado About Nothing? I'm a little bit out of it right now, but as I was watching it I just noticed a lot of scenes and characters that reminded me of it, although I haven't read or seen that play in over a year. The scene with Brad Renfro overhearing the plot to trick him reminded me of it, and the Pixil relationship with that guy reminded me of one of the relationships in the play...whatever, I don't know.
