Paying one's respects to this amazing game...
Everyone feels their favorite game is the greatest of all time.
In my case, FFVI is not my favorite game, although I do believe it to be the greatest game of all time. It's predecessor FF4 is my personal favorite. So I feel for this reason I am unbiased.
This game will make you sad... happy... excited... confused... depressed... spooked... angry... amused... liberated... triumphant... distressed... despaired... lost... found... vengeful... avenged... and maybe even enlightened in parts. Final Fantasy VI will make you laugh. It may disturb you. It may make you want to cry. Or it may creep you out with the grandness of its mythology, imagery, and mysticism. It will thrill you and chill you. It has heart and it has charm, and never takes itself too seriously. All in all, it impresses. Its characters are memorable. Its moments are unforgettable, many of which can take your breath away.
For a game to go all out and put so much effort into being much more than just a videogame, it is the work of true artists. There's nothing else quite like it.
I find myself wanting to play it, in the same way that I crave watching a movie or cartoon that I haven't seen in a while. And I play it more for the story and overall presentation than for anything else. The FF games are simple, like the old Oregon Trail PC game, in the sense that they are mostly quests with plots, strategy, and very little gameplay. Yet somehow they are largely fulfilling.
