Would love to make my own version of the book

I read the story in Jr. High and Charlie's loss of his intellect, plus those sad lines at the end, had me heartbroken and crying my eyes out in a way I think no other story did afterward until the last chapter or so of "Lonesome Dove." I never have really liked the way it's been translated to film, even "Charly" with the great Cliff Robertson ... they just never seem to get it right on the emotional level. You don't NEED to lay on the schmaltz, just TELL THE STORY. And I think Charlie's journal could in fact be used to tell the story in movie form.

Unfortunately I have no filmmaking experience whatsoever so making my own version of this story will remain just a dream.
