I read a condensed version of this movie and then I saw a movie version of it in 8th grade. This might have been it but... Anyways, a couple years later some kids (and my teacher for that matter) brought up this book and said it was a true story. I was surprised. My teacher had never told us anything like that. And now I'm not sure I believe them. So, is the book based on a true story?

NO!

The author, Daniel Keyes, says what his original idea was, and where it came from, in his book, "Algernon, Charlie, and I".
The movie, of course, is based on the short story and novel of the same name.
