If the film is near complete as it can be, why aren't people rushing to release it.

No kidding, we are talking about an Orson Welles film that is not released. Get with it Hollywood, release this movie.

I'm furious myself. Those damn bastards! Show some respect for the guy you're praising so much. I mean jesus beeping christ, OW is called one of the all time greats by pretty much everyone, yet he has films(yes plural) that no one has seen, which still could get released. It's an outrage!!!

Somebody here has been drinking and I'm sad to say it ain't me - Allan Francis Doyle

Munichfilm Museum is also holding that Q & A that became known as "Filming the Trial." And still no sign of "Other Side of the Wind" thanks to financial entanglements. Ridiculous.

Films are not reality. Reality is not film. Film is only an approximation of reality.

-- this movie isn't quite as "complete" as Bogdanovich would have us believe. Hope to hell I'm wrong, and I have nothing to base this assumption on but my own intuition.

But you've got similar doubts about it, don't you?

THE DEEP is far, far from complete. All that exists are two rough work prints (reportedly the original negative is long gone) that the Munich Filmmuseum has edited together to compile as much material as possible, although this includes numerous takes and alternate editing schemes as Welles liked to have options when editing a film. The work prints were not in very good condition, but most disheartening is the fact that only about 20% of the film has any audio. Some of this is looped dialogue and some of this is wild sound captured during shooting where much of the dialogue is obscured by the sound of the wind or the nearby generator. As compiled, it makes an interesting curio for museum or festival showings, but it is in no shape for any kind of wider release.
