Ugly and unremarkable

It's funny, in spite of all the detailing and beautiful sets it somehow still manages to come across as ugly, tacky and cheesy.

It's not a great movie, but I think it is better than average ... 3.5/5 ... so, maybe I'd have to round it up to 4, though that is a bit much.

There are a lot of problems with the film. Especially the ''plot''. However, it is truly terrifying in certain scenes. It fails as a psychological thriller and succeeds as a horror film.

reply

I used to like it very much but the more I know the more I dislike it.

It's what I call an "interesting failure".

Looks awesome, genuinely unique, keeps you watching and wondering what the hell bizarre image they'll throw in next, ridiculous story that keeps you on the verge of turning it off.

reply

I’d say the colour treatment they gave this ruined it. Otherwise it would have been pretty. It’s well shot, so I blame the filtering.

reply

It looks really fake, as in obvious sets, and I've seen his rest of filmography and his films never seen to work or gel.

reply

It does have a few beautiful shots, like the demon with the sheets of fabric.

reply

what part was that?

reply

She gets knocked out by the female body builder and delivered to his throne.

Her first entry.

I think the colouring was trying to be gritty like se7en and they ruined it.

Oh yeah I kinda like that, but also this movie's visuals are 100% plagiarized from Madonna's Bedtime Story video. Like 100%. That's the thing, the director is viewed as some sort of visionary but his films are actually kinda terrible, and his 'visions' are copied or depend on other artist's work, like the great Eiko Ishioka.

100%? I saw barely anything similar. It’s dream like, or surrealism, which was what a lot of videos were in the 90s. Yes, I did think that the movie seemed like a video clip or tv commercial at times, or a little too art house. It aimed high but needed something more. If it had have been shot in HD i think it would look amazing.

reply

yes 100%, have you actually seen the video?
