What was the deal with Edward?

The kid she's treating at the beginning...I don't remember if they ever explained it, but he had some themes going on in his head about "Molech", boats and seals. Did they ever hint at what put him in the coma or what the significance of his visions was?

It's not specifically stated but in the uncut version, Catherine has a dream that she's trying to reach Edward and she asks: "Where there seagulls being killed on the beach when you went sailing?"

I guess while sailing he saw something very traumatic...

Supposedly when novak visits catherine in edward's room, edward has schizophrenia. Not sure why schizophrenia was had by two characters in this movie from the vast disorders in the dsm. But supposedly edward had schizophrenia, and while he was sailing he saw some crazy *beep* happen to seals and fell into a coma lmao

No, he had the exact same condition as the other dude, caused by the same fictional virus - that is why the doctor suggested it, but he had been in a coma so long that it was now reality for him. All the water had dried up and some sort of boogeyman from his own mind tormented him, that's why she wanted to host the dreams and show him that molokoc can't go everywhere.
