A civilian for two weeks?

At the end of the film, Peter Novak is no longer an agent. At least not for two weeks. He, apparently, is still allowed to investigate and such however, as he's at Carl's house.

What happened?

Catherine asks him how long he'll be a civilian for, and he responds "two weeks."

He did nothing wrong. He broke no chain of command, to my knowledge. I don't understand.

I don't even remember him saying that, but I do remember him mentioning his job being like "that wasn't real, it was your imagination all in your mind" so maybe they made him take a personal leave after the ordeal he went through

Or maybe after doing that job, and such intense "therapy" it's necessary or recommended the experimenter takes a personal leave. Jennifer Lopez might've been on one too

That makes sense. Thanks :)

It was routine to investigate the odd methtods, the resulting death, and the firing of his weapon.

I thought that was weird, too, especially considering Catherine actually killed a man, and Peter saved a girl's life.
