Then you probably haven't seen 'The Royal Tenenbaums'
I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.
Complety disagree. While I think there certainly are "pretentious" films, I found this film to be very creative and visually dramatic/beautiful!
I never felt the director was trying to achieve some ridiculous, over-the-top film for its own sake, but that it was a labor of love and creativity because there are still artists out there in the world. They don't make art so that people can gawk at it and have deep discussions about apparent meaning, but to celebrate life and beauty and the tools we have to create them.
Very nicely stated. I agree.
shareYes, I thought it was stunning and beautiful.
Thought D'Onofrio's performance/presence was spectacular
After the first time I viewed it, I described it as 'Eye Candy'.
Generosity, that was my first mistake
Well, my dreams never looked like this.
TBH, my dreams involve me in various stages of undress in public places. That's it. ;)
Yeh, this film was really kinda dumb
shareWell, my dreams never looked like this.So what you do or do not dream about sets the standard for everybody's psyche?
my dreams involve me in various stages of undress in public placesMy dreams have involved a woman in various stages of undress in public! I don't know what time zone you're in, but maybe we're 'cross-dreaming' and maybe she's you. I'll try to focus better next time. Give a smile if it's you.
I movie starring JLO and Vince Vaughn and you're saying it's pretentious? Yea, okay. I'd hate to see what you'd say with an art house movie. Pretentious maybe only next to a Michael Bay movie.
shareI think Roger puts it succinctly when describing this movie;
"We live in a time when Hollywood shyly ejects weekly remakes of dependable plots, terrified to include anything that might confuse the dullest audience member. The new studio guidelines prefer PG-13 cuts from directors, so now we get movies like "Coyote Ugly" that start out with no brains and now don't have any sex, either. Into this wilderness comes a movie like "The Cell," which is challenging, wildly ambitious and technically superb, and I dunno: I guess it just overloads the circuits for some people."
nobody lives forever...
