any good

Is it funny, sad? And what inaprropriate material is in it?

It's sort of a dramady if you will. It has some funny moments, although some people may find themselves feeling disgusted over the humorous situations in the film. As for inappropriate material, the one major thing that would be construed as inappropriate is the plotline about Sam and Maurey's sex "experiment" and how that lands her pregnant. But that plotline. in my opinion anyway, wasn't gratuitous at all. I think that Tamra Davis did an excellent job of translating Sandlin's book into a movie and Sandlin did an eaually excellent job of adapting his own novel. But, the bottom line is that this movie deals with subject matter that would make people very uncomfortable. If the subject matter in this film does not bother you, then by all means see it. But if you find such themes to be offensive then I would steer clear of this one.

It's half-assed; I don't think you'll enjoy it.

It's a decent film with strong performances, but it felt rather stagey to me. 6/10 stars.

I liked it. To me, it reminded me a lot of Juno (2007), where both films have elements of "coming-of-age", and some realistic ways of dealing with teen pregnancy. Here, it's in Wyoming instead of Minnesota.

Teen sex, and teen pregnancy seems taboo, or even horrific to some, but honestly, this seems to be something that's a lot more common than we'd care to admit.. in the 60s, or nowadays. Depending on how you look at it, not any "worse" than movies where loved ones are killed, torture, rape, genocide.

Stuff that could be INAPPROPRIATE:
--Because the mother and daughter are only 15 years of age apart (as opposed to 30 years in other cases), they're much closer then many of us would be to our parents. The mother is younger and still in a "party mode" type deal. They curse at each other... "f-u Sam!". "F-u Lydia!" (and yes, his mother doesn't want him to call her "mother" to remind her of such)
--When her teenage son asks what sticky stuff in his sock is, his mother actually tastes his semen, and tells him what it is!

--The n-word gets mentioned, and that stems from discussing Mark Twain's Huckleberry fin
--While the nation was mourning of JFK's assassination, some couldn't care less

--2 teenagers tried to have sex, but couldn't figure it out. The nudity was off camera. Most you see is them in their undergarments
--Casual discussion of sex between a teenage girl and boy
--Open discussion of sex between the teenage kids, and 2 adult women
--Abortion clinic
