well i know it happens... ive seen dr phil and jerry springer. but i have to say i was alarmed to find that the cousins got married. i'd always hoped she chose dickon (i was so in luv with him as a kid) over the spoiled and unappealing cousin. but there you go, no sweet stoory of love here, just boring boring boring!

Why not? The British do it all the time, "Royal Bloodline". The line for the throne and all that. It's all incest.

Actually, at the time the Secret Garden is set, it was common to marry a cousin. And it does still happen today, but not so often. It's not illegal and not classed as incest. People do tend to get grossed out by it, hence why a friend of mine doesn't tell people his parents were cousins.

And by the way, my friend is a perfectly healthy, normal guy, no deformity or extra toes etc.

I too was shocked when it was revelled. Yep I do know that during the time period when the original secret garden was set. The royal families did marry cousins. But some of the bloodlines where somewhat far and near between.
But I thought it was sick that Mary would marry Colin when his mother and her mother where twins. It made me think of the part in the Marlbey version when Colin and Mary are left alone in the garden when Dickens goes to get the gardener. He asked Mary to marry him and she blushes she couldnt cause they were cousins and he replys "I dont care".
Then again it was a Disney version and not the Warner Brother's version. I hated their garden. I prefer WB's garden.
I also agree the storyline was pretty crappy. It ruined the Marlbey experience. Even though it was an a different movie. It sucked.

You guys have it all wrong. The movie you're thinking of is "Back to the Secret Garden" though it was advertised under the "Return" title in England. Ironically, the version of The Secret Garden that "Back" follows actually changed the storyline to where the Lennox and Craven families were not related but only family friends thus allowing Colin and Mary to get married. It was the 1987 story starring Gennie James and Barret Oliver.

This version we are actually posting on "Return to the Secret Garden" as it was released in America (nowhere else) it is actually a direct movie sequel of the book and doesn't follow any of the film versions. It's a great movie on it's own but it can only be found on ebay. I guess what you guys are talking about is correct, though.
