A masterpiece

In my opinion, it is Yimou's top 3 films. This film hits you hard on the emotional level.

The term "masterpiece" has been trivialized so much that currently doesn't mean too much. I mean, when movies like Iron Man or TDK are called "masterpieces", then something is wrong.

Therefore instead of using that trite term, this time I'll only say that "Not One Less" belongs to a select list of films like Los olvidados, The 400 Blows, Shoeshine, Salaam Bombay!, etc.

Those are movies that have impressed me so much for achieving a lot with very little, while most "super-productions" achieve nothing (except money, of course) with too much.

"Not One Less" is certainly among my fav movies by Yimou Zhang. Alongside with "Raise the Red Lantern", "The Road Home", "To Live"" and the radically different, "Hero".

9/10

guess what?
TDK IS a masterpiece.

Any kind soul care to explain what TDK is?

But yeah, "Not One Less" is very good indeed.

TDK = The Dark Knight.

I guess Iron Man was not enough of a popular masterpiece to be known by its initials only.

Sigh, would Criterion PLEASE do his first two films please? Not One Less is probably my favorite of his post-Shanghai Triad period. Happy Times is a second (thanks to the very funny dialog).

for me the best Yimou film, slightly better than To live, it's simply a masterpiece

so powerful and raw, it changed my mood for the rest of the day, when something like that happens you know you've seen something special

so many movies, so little time
