If this would be made now, could u replace polaroidcam with smartphone?

I havent seen the film for a while now, for many years tbh. But this thought just came up to me. If it would be made now, in modern times where everyone has a smartphone with camera. Could u replace a polaroid camera with that without ruining the concept of this film? Im thinking story wise, not just taking photos. Modern smartphones are full of gadgets and u can access internet and use other things like maps and GPS + many have personal information in their phone. In some countries there is even Mobile ID.

Unfortunately you are right. I hate cell phones and social media!

Why would you even need photos? Just take videos of yourself explaining crap to yourself (like Arnold in Total Recall - Get yourself to Mars!).

I was thinking about that. I have memory issues and Evernote is very useful to me, I can store any text-based info on it and access it from phone or PC.

In Still Alice it's said that ppl with Parkinson can have a more confortable life if they have technology to help them.

But in Leonard's case it'd not fit so good. He's always confused and doesn't trust anyone, he relies on his handwriting to trust info. A phone or PC wouldn't work because he'd think anybody could take it and mess with his info so he'd not trust it. If he did, indeed anybody could access it, even remotely, and fool him.

If he'd use a password, he'd choose something easy for him to figure. When somebody discovers it, they could keep using that password without him noticing.

Maybe a movie could use some Digital Certificate, or even be a movie on the future where the tool would recognize him from the eye.
