tThis movie glorifies promiscuous sex

or am I missing a point here?

reply

I see your point but I think it's not so much glorifying but more holding up a mirror to a particular section of society.
Also I'm sure that getting jiggy isn't the only thing these kids do in their everyday life although as its a LC film then he likes to pay particular attention to this activity.

Oh, so he has other movies aboout teen sex too? What's with his obsession on the subject?

reply

The first of his films I saw was Kids (1995) which is similar in style and could almost be a prequel to Ken Park. Although its not as explicit.

And as far as his obsession goes, well, he's old enough to be their father and then some. I'd be worried if I was a male actor in one of his films.

reply

male and female actors, I guess. Unless you're a porn star, you'd probably be a bit disturbed by his directions in his movies, lol.

reply

Why would you be so "disturbed" acting in a film like this? I would be disturbed if I had to do a love scene with Maeve and they taped my privates in place like they do in some "main stream" movies. If your an actor, it's acting and no more serious than an onscreen kiss.

reply

He wants everything to be so close and explicit, isn't it disturbing?

Sex is an every day part of life so what is wrong with showing it in all of its beauty and nastiness. Are you trying to to tell me that you have never had an unpleasant or uncomfortable sexual experience?

This guys not doing it for any other reason then to have his fantasies realized on film. Don't be fooled there's no message here. Other then sex is used to keep things interesting for the viewer yeah sex is a part of life. A very small part at that its not as important as this guy makes it out to be. If he wants to send a message about terns he should pick better subject matter with actual importance. Other then kids tucking and doing drugs

Sex is a very small part of life? Hahaha. Sex IS life. It is the reason every one of us exists and is one of the prime instinctual motivators that drive most of our actions.

What you're missing is the meaning of the word "promiscuous."

I don't think promiscuity is at issue at all in this film...it is not promiscutiy that the characters are pursuing, nor even really sex at all.
The sex in the film is a metaphor for the need for real CONTACT in this life...contact that means acceptance, love, understanding and the sense of belonging and being valued. The false facades and compromises that block this are the problem...causing the dysfunctions in both the parents and the teens.
Those who are unwilling or unable to achieve this basic need for themselves or fail to respond to the needs of others, especially in their own families are bound for disaster. I think this theme is brilliantly played out in the various forms it takes in these characters. The fortunate ones achieve this contact by whatever means it takes....the unfortunate sad ones do not. Ken Park blew his brans out because he failed, Tate blew his grandparents away because they failed him. The other kids found it in each other becuase theri elders failed them.

I thought this movie is the only movie I've seen so far that actually says love is more important than sex, but whatever.

What's wrong with promiscuous sex? We were put on this planet to be very sexual and promiscuous beings.
