I believe Cyrus was dead before Jack even shot him.
Literally beat him to death.
Watch that scene again and you'll admit that it is likely.

Cyrus was lying still and dead like a side of pork. His eyes were open which means he was dead! If he was only unconscious, his eyes would be closed.

You can be knocked unconscious and still have your eyes open.
