Awesome movie

I don't know why a lot of people don't like it but I thought it was a kickbutt movie. Sly was great. I've seen it probably 10 times. And M. Rouke, RLCook, Alan Cumming were great also.

I thought it was OK as a Sly vehicle, but the producers did a pretty good job of complicating an essentially simple storyline, somehow thinking they had to pile on the red herrings and fancy editing to keep us attentive. It was OK, but I've seen a lot better and really don't think it's anywhere near as good as the original.🐭

It's pointless to compare this to the original.

The original novel and the 1971 film centered around Carter being from a Midlands city (Newcastle) which is gritty and gray and depressing, even on a sunny day.
Carter moved down to London, the big city and only came back for his brother's funeral. It was only the local villains trying to bump him off that got him started investigating the death and planning revenge.

At the time in the UK there was very little gun violence, so the fairly low key shootouts were strong stuff and widely condemned as unrealisticthe ending, true to the novel was a shocker for audiences, much like the end of Bonnie and Clyde.

They are different movies for different times. A UK remake with, say Jason Statham as Carter would have much more explicit violence and probably be compared to this Stallone version !

Come on lads, bags of swank!

LOL! You might as well try and stop the tides.
It's a remake with the same name of what is widely regarded as a "classic" gangster film and you're telling people not to bother to compare them? You're not serious? People will always compare and contrast remakes, reboots, sequels to originals etc. It is the way of the film world and so should it be and stay. 🐭
