"This is an ideological rape of all women." FFS

Around half of this movie is awesome, mostly the scenes with President Dude, and the scenes with Hanson vs. Runyon.

But it's also got cringeworthy lines like that, which make me want to punch a baby.

Really, I liked that line and the character who said it. The fact that he would choose to try smear a woman, in a way that wouldn't even raise the eyebrow (at least not in disgust or disrepute) for a man in the same position sex with four girls when they were 18 was not only applying a double-standard, but manufacturing material in order to do so. The ideology is eliminating the double-standard, and the production of the evidence is the rape. It's a flowery term, but completely poignant and appropriate.

reply

If the candidate were a man, NO WAY would he be asked about his practice of birth control, plans to take paternity leave, sexual imbroglios or past extra-marital affairs. That analogy by Runyon's wife was absolutely perfect because that's exactly what it was.

reply

@pitchrollyaw I can see a male candidate being asked about past extra-marital affairs.

In either case, "ideological rape of all women" seems like pure hyperbole to me.

funny you chose to only adress one of the points and leave out "his practice of birth control, plans to take paternity leave" ones. It absolutely is an unacceptable double standard, and more points could be added to that specific issue that indeed makes the current election in the USA sound like an obituary to decency.
