Excellent Series

After watching two episodes online and some clips, I decided to buy this series on DVD. I got the DVDs early this week and I absolutely love it! The whole approach of the series was so original, of blending fantasy and surrealism with the reality of life in the city. The animation and style of the show is fantastic.

I love all of the characters too, in particular Goat (hilarious!) and Mecca, with her naive fantasies.

What a goddamn shame it was killed off so quickly.

Yeah, I like to call shows like these "the last stand" for animation, because the 90s were something of a animated renaissance. So many great dramas, comedies, and dramedies were made as a result of the era. Although I think it's funny, I also think it's kinda sad to see American Animation pretty much get represented by animated skit shows like Family Guy and Robot Chicken. Downtown is one of my favorite animated series and now I think I gotta watch the series all over again.

It quickly became one of my favorite shows after watching the first episode. I sat through 3 after that and I didn't even realize it.

I love the narrative. That's what gave the show its legs.

Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
