Inspiration for the film?

The image of the girl with the egg, it's remarkably similar to Leonora Carrington's "The Giantess". Google it, I don't know when it was painted but it's seem like that's where Yoshitaka Amano and Mamoru Oshii got the idea for the character of the little girl. What do you guys think?

Great observation! It is definitely reminiscent. The painting seems to contain much of the thematic content of the film. Even the styles of the two pieces echo one another. I'd be surprised if it didn't play a role in the movie's inception in Oshii's mind.
