Since I never owned any playstations growing up, I never got to play FF7. I got to play FF4 and FF6, and both of those were legendary in their own right, but never FF7. I know the story, the characters, and all that stuff, but I never actually played. But now since it's getting remade for the PS4, I'm strongly considering saving up to buy a PS4 and the game when it comes out. I see this as a golden chance to correct a great wrong in my life. What do you think?

No matter how good or bad the remake may be (hopefully very good), the fact is, it won't be the original and I don't think it would be fair to judge the original on the basis of the remake.
I'd honestly recommend picking up the original and playing it first before getting the remake. Especially if you are interested in it. Since the remake isn't just a graphical upgrade, but will have a lot of differences (gameplay, etc.) and merely follow the same story.

FF7 is definitely worth picking up.
