How could it be rated higher than X?

I've always thought 7 was just hyped up... it had its amazing peculiarities, as do any FF, but more so than X, who had such a complex and involved narrative? (This one did, but I thought it remained somewhat fixated on a single character... Seymour, in comparison, wasn't even the one behind everything in X.)

While I do love X, and am glad you do as well, in comparison to the higher-tier installments like VII and VI it's just kind of generic by all comparisons.

X is generic? VI was complex and is actually my favourite, but unless you explain why you equate it with VII (or any sort of qualitative descriptions) I can't understand your point of view. :-)

I think you somewhat answered your own question in your first sentence, it's because of the hype. While I don't agree that x is the better narrative between the two, I enjoyed the hell out of the game. IV is my favorit.

7 will always be my favourite and I think now that they are giving up turn based games it will always be top of my list now, and X my 2nd

8 was a joke, none of the characters had backstories every single one in 7 had a backstory and we got to see it, 8 also had that terrible junciton systme, 9 was ok gameplay wise but the storyline wasn't as mature as 7 it almost turned into a kids game, but it was more true to what final fantasy games were.

Final Fantasy 7 had a happy ending. FFX did not.
