PC or PS version?

I was thinking that the PS version in an emulator might be ironically superior to running the game on its native platform, what with compatibility issues with old PC games, plus you can run it at your monitor's native resolution.

Incidentally I'll never play this game until people stop charging ridiculous prices for it. And it's only going to get worse as cd's in tip-top condition get rarer.

If you have a PS3, you can buy it off the Playstation Network, or whatever their online service is called. (I have a PS3, but it isn't connected to the internet for now, so I don't really know about their services.) I've heard it's a lot cheaper this way... Like $10 or $15, as opposed to the $50+ you'd pay for a used copy of the original discs online.

I had to re-buy the game last year online (along with Silent Hill 2 and about three CDs) after a long incident that led to my copies being destroyed. Basically, I leant them all to a friend, and after he broke up with his hyper-dramatic ex-girlfriend, she broke a bunch of his stuff for some stupid form of vengence, inlcuding my games and CDs. Then he convieniently dissapeared without a trace, and when he came back (he moved away for about a year), he "didn't remember" me loaning him the games and CDs. So, basically he refused to pay me the $120 I had to spend last year to rebuy them online. Needless to say, I haven't hung out with him since, and I have since heard that he's pretty sleezy when it comes to people loaning him things.

And FFVII was the worst offender, costing about $70 on it's own. (Although it was a great used copy. Perfect case, perfect booklet, and it wasn't even a greatest hits copy.)

I've got my original PS version from '97, but I also downloaded it from the PS Network to my PS3 for $9.99. It's the exact same platform game (translation errors, W-item glitch and all). :)

frosvenk -

have you tried ebay? I immediately went to check after I saw your post and saw some for around 10£. IMO unless you're really poor (in which case you wouldnt even have internet ;) ) that's affordable and worth it.

I was lucky a couple of years ago. I already had a version of FF VII, but i went by this store and they had a box full of video games at a clearance with a sign saying "everything in box under 10£". Guess what I found as I dug through. I bet if they'd known they could have sold it for 200£ they wouldn't have put it there.

Im sorry? In case yuo havent noticed all ps3 and xbox 360 games are 60 dollars..... so im assuming you dont have any. As long as people dont regret spending that money and enjoy it , who cares.

reply

yeah im jk. but no wonder people pirate so much.
i can come up with about 20 games that are worth buying for 60 dollars. and they were all...released at least 5 years ago.

P.S. just bought a used PC, so now it's worth about $125-150

Or if you have internet on your ps3 you can buy it for like 20 bucks at playsation store and download it.... Lol

reply

You can just download an ISO of the game and run it in an emulator, you don't have to buy the game. That's what I did, and it works perfect. Try coolrom.com and get the ePSXe emulator and the ROM files for the game.

LOL at you people complaining about cost of games, be lucky you don't live in Australia where PS3 games are $100 brand new.

I had the PS version and played it on my Mac using a program called Virtual Game Station. Best of both worlds.

But this was probably before your time, so...

Im playing on a emulator called ePsxe 1.9.0. You should download the emulator (including the bios, plugins and games) and then you can play FF7. Its working great for me! Im in love with it. There is a tutorial to install it.

Just a heads up; there's a Steam version out now, currently priced at 11€ or your regional equivalent. I've bought it, but not tried it yet. You do have to sign up for a Square Enix account, which is annoying, but other than that it should be fine.

FFVIII also got released on Steam a little over a week ago. I love both of these games.. Still have the original PC discs and jewel cases for both games stashed away somewhere.

Final Fantasy 7 PC censorship.

To all you Final Fantasy 7 fans out there.
To answer the imdb user frosevenk question.

I just wanted to let you Final Fantasy fans know that in the 1998 PC version of Final Fantasy 7. They censored the foul language that's said by Barrett Wallace and Cid Highwind, including Cloud Strife. Who originally said the four letter s word S*** in the uncensored 1997 Playstation 1 version, Also they censored the word "Wench" said by Tifa during the slapping contest.

I find the four letter S*** word said by Barrett and Cid in the PS1 very offensive to me because I never use words like that ever in my life. I also grew up in the 1980s, 1990s video game censorship era. And yes Back to the Future 1,2,3 uses the S*** word.

Although did I grew up with hearing bible words used in my family home like Damn, Hell, Ass on TV which is used in both the PS1 and PC version of Final Fantasy 7. I also heard the word Jackass used in Pinocchio 1940 Disney movie and in a Donald Duck 1937 cartoon "Don Donald" that Barrett uses in the game, and I've heard Gods name taken in vain growing up in the 1980s, 1990s.

I do remember in Castlevania 2 for NES that used the word Hellhouse which was one of the games to slip in a Bible word during Nintendo's Censorship era which one of the monsters is named in Final Fantasy 7.

Also in the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 they renamed Aeris to Aerith and reduced the soundtrack to Midi form.

Anyways I hope my imdb comment was helpful to you in knowing the difference between the Playstation and PC version of Final Fantasy 7.
